Shocking update: Matthew Perry’s death! New details emerge, investigation underway
The circumstances surrounding Matthew Perry’s death, the 54-year-old actor famous for his role as Chandler Bing in the TV series Friends, are still unclear. The coroner has updated the online medical file stating that the causes of death require “further investigation”. Initially, the website reported that the remains were ready to be released to the family. The man was found lifeless on Saturday afternoon, October 28th, in the hot tub at his home in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. It is therefore hypothesized that he may have drowned, but there is still no confirmation.
An autopsy has been conducted, but the examiners are waiting for the results of the toxicology reports to determine the cause of Matthew Perry’s death, the coroner’s office told CNN on Sunday. The completion of these reports may take weeks.
Matthew Perry’s death: the investigation
An autopsy has been conducted on the actor’s body, but investigators and doctors are waiting for the results of toxicology tests. This wait could take several weeks, but it is necessary in order to confirm or refute the hypothesis that any foreign substances may have contributed to Matthew Perry’s death. At the moment, it appears that no traces of drugs were found in the actor’s home. However, the artist has had a difficult life with periods of opioid addiction and alcoholism that had caused numerous medical complications. There have been reports of pneumonia, colon perforation, two weeks in a coma, nine months with a colostomy bag, and dozens of stomach surgeries. The Los Angeles Police Department is still investigating Perry’s case.
A difficult life
His father had abandoned the family when he was a child, and he began drinking at the age of 14. When he got the role in Friends, he was already an alcoholic, but his cast mates were “understanding and patient”. Matthew wrote: “It’s like penguins: when one is sick or injured, the others surround and support him, circling around until the penguin can walk on its own. That’s kind of what the cast did for me”.
Between rehabilitation and relapses, the situation worsened in 1997 following a jet ski accident. Due to his injuries, he started using opioid painkillers, eventually taking 55 pills a day. Too many: in 2018, he suffered an intestinal perforation. “After two weeks in a coma, my family was told I only had a two percent chance of survival.”
The last post
In his last Instagram post, ironically enough, Matthew appeared immersed in a bathtub, wearing headphones for music, with the comment: “Oh, so hot tubbing makes you feel good? I’m Mattman“. A nickname that followers immediately connected to his desire to play Batman.
