New features coming to WhatsApp. Soon, it will be possible to use two accounts (with different numbers) of the popular instant messaging app on the same phone. The announcement was made by Mark Zuckerberg, the head of Meta.

Zuckerberg’s announcement

The new WhatsApp feature was announced on Thursday, October 19, by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The Facebook founder posted an image of his two profiles (private and work) on his social media page to illustrate the upcoming feature that will be available on WhatsApp soon.

Accompanying the photo was a brief comment: “Switch between WhatsApp accounts: soon, you can have two WhatsApp accounts on the same phone within the app”.

The benefits

The advantages of this new option are many, starting with the ability to no longer need two phones and ending with a drastic reduction in sending errors between private and work numbers. On one hand, the introduction of dual WhatsApp accounts will save a lot of money for those who are required to carry two phones for work. On the other hand, it will make managing the “double life” on a single device easier.

You’ll no longer need to remember two chargers, search for two power outlets, or carry two phones. In the coming weeks, all of this will be a thing of the past because switching from private to work life and vice versa will simply involve selecting the desired profile in the WhatsApp app. Additionally, you won’t make mistakes, avoiding embarrassing message sends, ambiguous forwards, and duplicate chats!

How to use two whatsapp accounts on the same device

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has announced that the new feature will be released “over the coming weeks and months”. Initially, the feature will be available only for those with an Android operating system.

According to the company, “this feature is particularly useful for people who need to switch between accounts, for example, from their work account to their personal one”.

Until now, it was only possible to have two WhatsApp numbers on the same smartphone if you had one WhatsApp account linked to the first number and one WhatsApp Business account tied to the second, or if you had a dual SIM smartphone.

Switching between accounts

To activate the new feature, you will, of course, need a second phone number. According to the platform’s instructions, to enable the new feature, open WhatsApp and go to “Settings”.

Here, click on the arrow next to the account name, and then select “Add Account”.

When the new feature will arrive

Those eager to try out WhatsApp’s new feature and have a dual account on the same device won’t have to wait too long. The launch of this highly anticipated feature will happen in the coming weeks. It will first be available to Android smartphone users and will eventually extend to iPhone users as well.
