Frances Bean Cobain’s surprising wedding to Tony Hawk’s son stuns the world.

Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Kurt Cobain, the late leader of Nirvana who died by suicide in 1994, secretly married Riley Hawk, the son of Tony Hawk, at the beginning of October in Los Angeles.

As revealed by documents obtained by TMZ, the two got married in Los Angeles on October 7th. They obtained their marriage license in September in San Diego County.

But the surprises don’t end there: officiating the wedding was Frances’ godfather, former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe.

Frances Bean Cobain and Riley Hawk have been a couple since 2021. Their relationship, however, only became officially public in August 2022, on her 30th birthday. The couple shared a mirror selfie together, confirming their romantic connection.

Frances, a visual artist and model, took a one-year break from social media and, after returning to Instagram, shared a reflection on her life, including some sweet snapshots with Riley:
“I took a year-long break from posting on Instagram, and it has been exceptionally positive for my mental, emotional, and spiritual health”.

“2021 brought me more into the present moment than I’ve ever been, for which I am deeply grateful. I wanted to share some moments from my life collected during this year that have brought me great joy,” added Frances Bean. Who, on August 18, 2022, on her 30th birthday, posted another photo with Riley on social media.

Second marriage

For Frances Bean Cobain, her marriage to Riley Hawk is actually her second. In March 2016, just two years after the big “I do”, Kurt Cobain’s daughter divorced her first husband, musician Isaiah Silva. The official reasons for the separation are not known, as at the time, it was only referred to as “irreconcilable differences”, a classic phrase in American divorces. However, what we do know for sure is that the two former spouses had a dispute over the custody of the guitar that Kurt Cobain played before taking his own life. In the end, the judge ruled that the instrument should remain with Isaiah Silva.

Frances Bean Cobain was born on August 18, 1992, from the relationship of Nirvana’s frontman with Courtney Love. The girl’s inheritance, as the sole heir to her father’s artistic and financial legacy, is estimated to be around $450 million. Frances saw Kurt Cobain for the last time in April 1994, a week before his suicide, when she was just a year and a half old. “When I was 15, I realized that there was no escaping Nirvana. I turned on the radio at any time, and there was my father”, she had said in 2015. And about the love he had for her: “It would have been nice to have a father. He left in the most horrible way, but I know he loved me.”
